[edit]"It is indeed ironic that there are very, very few black students in any of the AP courses or other "advanced" courses."
Bias
[edit]the article has bias at one point about blacks in ap classes, referring to it as "ironic" that very few blacks take AP classes.
A new racial bias statement "Central has a supposed "magnet" program that allows them to siphon off the best and brightest from the other four high schools in Little Rock" is now been added by another.
Despite the feelings the editor has, may I recommend wording that does not present the views mentioned above as fact (ala, Central has a supposed "magnet" program ..." but rather re-word these statements to take into account that its programs are drawing 'fire'. Preferably, if a local newspaper article can be placed in the External links area, that should suffice.
- Maybe new wording such as: "Recently, Central's international studies magnet program and its ability to attract students outside its traditional school zone has drawn criticism from members of the community and parents of nearby high schools." or like wording.
There is a definate bias in the article. Central's magnet program isn't some sort of "exclusive" program that "siphons" students away. Four of the five high schools in the Little Rock School District are magnet schools - Central is International Studies, Hall is University Studies, McClellan is Technology Studies, and Parkview is an Arts & Sciences Magnet School. Futhermore, the reason students have been attracted to Central isn't neccessarily because of how good it is, but because of how lackluster the other high schools in Little Rock are (with the exception of Parkview, which is on par with Central in most respects, in terms of academics.) Hall High, McClellan, and J.A. Fair are notorious for their problems concerning academics, security, etc. It should also be noted that Central itself was much like those schools just years ago but has been rebuilt by principal Nancy Rousseau. Hall High is also undergoing a "transformation" currently thanks it part to new principal John Bacon, whom is well known throughout the district for his abilities to improve lackluster schools; Bacon has previously brought Dunbar Middle School back from desolation into one of the top middle schools in the city.
Stray picture link
[edit]I removed this stray picture link from the article.[1] It seems to go to an archive of a picture, removed due to copyright reasons.
